SUN DAMAGE

What is that?

Sun damage occurs when UV rays damage the skin and cause it to age prematurely - a process known as Photoaging is referred to as UVA. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin due to their longer wavelength and cause premature ageing and possible cell changes. UVB rays act on the superficial layers of the skin and cause sunburn. Both types of rays contribute to skin damage in the long term.

How can it manifest itself?

Sun damage can be characterised by various signs, including

- Premature skin ageing and loss of firmness

- Irregular skin texture

- Pigmentation disorders (e.g. age spots)

- Vascular damage (visible veins)

- Skin thinning

- Redness and increased sensitivity

- Cancerous and non-cancerous skin lesions

What can I do about it?

- Use sun protectionApply SPF 30/50 daily and renew it regularly.

- Protective clothingCover your skin, wear a hat and avoid direct sunlight, especially at midday.

- Pigment inhibitorsUse skin care products that reduce melanin formation to minimise pigmentation disorders.

A consistent sun protection routine and protective measures are essential to prevent sun damage and minimise existing damage.
